![]() ![]() Before this book, I couldn’t recall ever hearing the name George Rogers Clark. I love history, but this is the first story I’ve ever read that sent me on a self-directed history binge to find out more about the true events of the story. Part of that was because of my busy circumstances at the time, but part of that was because this is a mighty big story and it takes some time to lay the groundwork for what is to come. It took about 150 pages to really get into the story. You are always aware of the author’s voice in the self-conscious use of anachronistic language and overwrought descriptions of former times, but James Alexander Thom hits it just right. Most historical fiction authors have a hard time making their characters real and present. As a former history teacher and lifelong history junky, I love historical fiction, and this book is my absolute favorite of them all. ![]()
